Our Coaching Team

Dedicated to Inspiring the Next Generation of Anglers

The team behind Summerhayes Juniors share a common goal — to create a welcoming, safe and supportive environment where young people can discover the joy of fishing. Our coaches and volunteers bring together years of angling experience along with a passion for youth development and outdoor education. Every session is designed to help young anglers learn new skills, understand the natural world around them, and grow in confidence both on and off the bank. We work closely with organisations including the Angling Trust and Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership, alongside local schools and community groups, to provide structured coaching programmes and positive outdoor experiences for young people across the region. Whether a child is picking up a fishing rod for the very first time or developing their skills further, our team is committed to making every session fun, educational and memorable.

Chairman

Peter Wakling

Peter, the fishery co-owner and manager, is always busy on the fishery. He’ll either be assisting customers, building the holiday homes, or cooking and making teas in the shop.

Vice Chairman

Gavin Davey

Gavin Davey is a youth angling coach and community programme developer based in Somerset. He runs Summerhayes Juniors and founded the Cast for Life angling education programme and Clubnest platform, working with schools, community organisations and the Angling Trust to introduce young people to angling, outdoor learning and environmental awareness.
