Structured Angling Programmes for Schools
Summerhayes Juniors works with schools to deliver engaging outdoor learning experiences through angling. Our structured sessions help students develop confidence, patience and environmental awareness while working towards recognised learning outcomes through the Cast for Life learning pathway.
Outdoor Learning Through Angling
At Summerhayes Juniors, we work with schools and youth organisations to provide structured outdoor learning sessions through angling.
Fishing offers a unique learning environment where young people can develop patience, focus and confidence while spending time outdoors and learning about the natural world.
Our sessions are designed to provide a safe and engaging experience that complements education while encouraging students to develop practical skills, environmental awareness and a sense of responsibility.
For many young people, learning by the water can provide a completely different type of educational experience—one that encourages calm focus, problem solving and achievement.
Working With Schools
We regularly work with schools to deliver well organised angling sessions that support both personal development and outdoor learning.
Our programmes can be tailored to suit the needs of individual schools and groups and may be delivered as:
• Outdoor learning days
• Enrichment activities
• Reward and engagement programmes
• Small group development sessions
• Multi-session learning programmes
During these sessions students will learn the foundations of angling alongside important lessons around safety, responsibility and environmental care.
Key learning areas include:
• Waterside safety and awareness
• Understanding fishing tackle and equipment
• Fish care and safe handling
• Respect for wildlife and the environment
• Patience, concentration and problem solving
Our aim is not simply to teach children how to fish, but to create meaningful outdoor experiences that encourage learning, wellbeing and respect for nature.
A Calm and Supportive Learning Environment
The waterside environment provides a calm and focused setting where many young people thrive.
Fishing requires patience, observation and concentration, helping students develop confidence and perseverance while working at their own pace.
Many schools find that angling sessions can be particularly beneficial for students who respond well to practical learning and outdoor activities.
Safety and Safeguarding
The safety and wellbeing of young people is central to everything we do.
All sessions are carefully planned and delivered with clear guidance on waterside safety, responsible behaviour and fish welfare.
Our coaches are experienced anglers who are passionate about introducing young people to fishing in a safe, supportive and responsible way.
