Our Mission

Inspiring the Next Generation of Young Anglers

At Summerhayes Juniors, our mission is simple: to introduce children and young people to angling in a safe, supportive and inspiring environment while helping them develop skills that last a lifetime.

Learning Through Angling

Developing patience, responsibility and a lifelong connection with the natural world.

We believe fishing is about far more than simply catching fish. Angling teaches patience, responsibility, respect for nature and confidence in the outdoors. Through our coaching programmes, we aim to give young people the opportunity to experience the natural world, build practical skills and develop a genuine connection with the environment.

Our sessions are designed to make angling accessible to everyone — whether a child is completely new to fishing, already interested in the sport, or looking for a positive outdoor activity that builds confidence and wellbeing.

Developing Skills for Life

The Summerhayes Juniors programme focuses on helping young anglers develop both practical fishing skills and important life skills.

Through structured coaching and hands-on learning, juniors learn:

  •  Safe behaviour around water and on the fishing bank
  •  Respect for wildlife, fish and the natural environment
  •  How to set up fishing equipment and understand different fishing methods
  •  The importance of patience, concentration and perseverance
  •  Teamwork, friendship and supporting other young anglers

Our experienced coaches guide every session, ensuring children learn in a safe, encouraging and well-organised environment.

Creating a Safe and Welcoming Environment

Safety is at the heart of everything we do.

All Summerhayes Juniors sessions are delivered with a strong focus on:

  • Water safety and awareness
  • Responsible fish handling
  • Environmental care
  • Positive behaviour and respect

Our aim is to ensure that every young person who joins us feels welcome, supported and able to learn at their own pace.

Encouraging Respect for Nature

Angling offers a unique opportunity for young people to connect with the natural world.

At Summerhayes Juniors we actively teach:

  •  How aquatic ecosystems work
  •  The importance of protecting wildlife habitats
  •  How anglers can help monitor water quality and protect fisheries
  •  Leaving the waterside cleaner than we found it

By understanding nature, young anglers develop a lifelong respect for the environment.

Supporting Families and Schools

We work closely with parents, schools and community organisations to provide meaningful outdoor learning opportunities.

Our programmes can support:

  • School enrichment and outdoor education
  • SEND-friendly activities
  • Youth wellbeing and confidence building
  • Introduction to angling and environmental awareness

Angling can be a powerful tool for helping children who thrive in practical, hands-on learning environments.

Building the Future of Angling

One of our long-term goals is to help develop the next generation of responsible anglers, fisheries stewards and community volunteers.

By giving young people the right foundations today, we help ensure that the sport of angling — and the natural environments it depends on — continue to thrive for years to come.

Whether a child joins us simply to try fishing for the first time or develops a lifelong passion for the sport, Summerhayes Juniors is here to guide them every step of the way.
