About This Course

Keep fishing alive this winter with our Junior Winter Angling Indoor Programme! Running from 29th October 2025 to April 2026 (every Wednesday, 4:30–6:30pm), these fun, educational sessions cover every aspect of the sport – from making your own rigs and floats to learning about pole, feeder, whip, sea fishing and even piking. With hands-on workshops, guest speakers, games, and plenty of angling knowledge, juniors will build confidence and skills ready for the new season. Perfect for beginners and experienced young anglers alike.

Learn about fixed and slider waggler rigs, their uses, and how to adapt them for different depths and venues.

Rig Building Workshop 60 mins

Juniors build their own waggler rigs, attaching line, float rubbers, and shotting patterns. Coaches support safe and accurate setup.

Shotting Practice 30 mins

Use rig boards and water bowls to practise balancing floats. Juniors compare rigs and discuss why correct shotting improves presentation.

Hooklengths Explained 30 mins

Understand why hooklengths are used, how breaking strain works, and how knot strength affects rig performance.

Hooklength Tying 60 mins

Juniors use hook tyers and line to make at least 10 hooklengths each. Coaches assist with knot technique and line trimming.

Storage & Reflection 30 mins

Store hooklengths neatly in hook boxes and review the importance of having spare, ready-to-use hooklengths in matches.

Fishing in Winter 45 mins

A guest match angler shares their approach to winter fishing, covering rigs, feeding, and watercraft. Juniors can ask questions.

Practical Demo 30 mins

Live demonstration of rigs or bait preparation by the guest. Juniors take notes to use in future sessions.

Team Quiz 45 mins

Fun quiz on tactics and watercraft, reinforcing what was learned during the talk. Prizes or points for the winning team.

Watercraft Theory 30 mins

Learn how to spot features such as shelves, reeds, and deeper areas. Discuss how weather, depth, and time of year affect fish location.

Peg Map Activity 60 mins

Juniors use aerial photos to create “peg maps” of a venue, marking likely fish-holding spots and explaining their reasoning.

Group Discussion 30 mins

Compare peg maps and talk through decisions as a group. Coaches provide feedback on how to improve watercraft skills.

Christmas Fishing Quiz 30 mins

A festive quiz combining fishing trivia with Christmas-themed fun.

Feeder & Bomb Theory 30 mins

Introduction to feeder and bomb rigs, including flat method, open-end, and straight lead. Learn when and why each is used.

Rig Building Workshop 60 mins

Juniors build simple method feeder and bomb rigs, attaching hooklengths and feeders. Coaches supervise for safety and accuracy.

Group Reflection 30 mins

Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of feeder vs ledger, and when juniors might use these methods in matches.

Week 10 – Pole Fishing Deep Dive 30 mins

Learn about elastics, cupping kits, and how pole sections are shipped in and out. Coaches demonstrate safe handling indoors.

Elastic Threading Workshop 60 mins

Juniors practise threading elastics through spare top kits, fitting bungs, and adding connectors. Coaches assist step by step.

Wrap-Up Discussion 30 mins

Review what juniors found most challenging about pole fishing. Discuss how to apply today’s skills outdoors.
