Over the last five weeks, the Summerhayes Junior Club members have continued to develop their angling skills and all of them have succeeded in achieving a Gold standard in the the Angling Trust 'Get Fishing' awards. This week was a bit of fun in the rain - a silvers match on Big 8 as all the fair weather carp fishermen had cried off from the rain.
The match was only an hour and a half long, but they all managed to put nice weights together. First place went to the youngest members who fished as a team and managed an impressive 2lb 9oz (aggr) of roach and skimmer bream. Second and third place only had an ounce between them! 2lb 4 and 2lb 3. To put some perspective on this, the two oldest members struggled and scratched at the weigh in to spare themselves blushes, although one of them hooked two of the huge carp and got busted in the lily pads. Next week will be the start of a series of new courses that will enable members to begin to build up a portfolio of new evidenced skills, starting with whip fishing. Plans to host an 'away' match for Taunton AA juniors are also underway with the 10th of August being earmarked for the occasion, so we are now very keen to hear from anyone who might wish to sponsor the event with a prize contribution.
