Earlier this month, Summerhayes Junior Club recieved a surprise visit from Dean Asplin – the Angling Trust’s regional development officer for the South of England.  The club has been quietly going about it’s business for 7 or 8 years but thanks to some recent and incredibly hard work behind the scenes by the likes of coaches Ray Jones and Steve Jackon, the club has grown significantly and is fast emerging to be on of the best providers for supporting young anglers in the region, wishing to be introduced to the sport or develop their skills and understanding.  This hasn’t gone unnoticed and the club was extremely honoured and pleased to recieve a volunteering excellence award from Dean on behalf of the Angling Trust, which is the national governing body for angling.  What makes this award particularly special is the fact that it’s the first time the Angling Trust have awarded it to us as a club, as opposed to a single individual.  The team effort from everyone past and present warrants this award and we should be proud of what has been achieved.  The Angling Trust plays an important role in the development of angling and coaches, but also work on various campaigns to protect fish and the waters that they swim in and for that reason we enourage all our members to join.  Membership is free to juniors or £30 a year for adults.  More information is available here: https://anglingtrust.net/memberships/individual/
